Drew Peter­son has a trial date. A Will County judge sched­uled the trial of the for­mer sub­ur­ban Chicago police offi­cer to begin in late July. Peter­son is accused of killing his third wife. That case was re-opened after Peterson’s fourth wife van­ished in 2007.

Law­mak­ers in Spring­field pushed for­ward a plan to increase the state’s min­i­mum wage. It could be months before it is imple­mented. The spon­sor wants to raise the wage from 8.25 to 10 dol­lars an hour.

A for­mer Peo­ria cou­ple were indicted in fed­eral court yes­ter­day for fail­ing to show up for sen­tenc­ing on a fraud scheme 12 years ago. Nel­son and Janet Hal­la­han were caught in Ari­zona after their faces were shown on America’s Most Wanted.

Half-naked peo­ple cov­ered them­selves in a black sub­stance meant to look like oil dur­ing a demon­stra­tion Thurs­day out­side the Cana­dian con­sulate in Chicago. About 100 envi­ron­men­tal activists took part in the protest.

The Illi­nois Sen­ate has denied Munir Muham­mad another term on the Illi­nois Human Rights Com­mis­sion. There is con­tro­versy about mate­r­ial on the web­site of a coali­tion he’s part of that includes a state­ment say­ing “race mix­ing” and inter­ra­cial mar­riage should be prohibited.

A 3-year-old Urbana boy died of a gun­shot wound to the head in what inves­ti­ga­tors believe was an acci­dent involv­ing his 14 year old uncle. Mekhi Woods died Wednes­day night.

The FBI has issued a war­rant for Arnoldo Jimenez, whose new wife was found stabbed to death in the dress she wore to her wed­ding recep­tion in Bur­bank, Illi­nois. Police have also asked Texas and U.S. bor­der offi­cials to join the hunt.

Two peo­ple were indicted yes­ter­day after police found them with a work­ing meth lab in their motel room in East Peo­ria. Police found the toxic lab when they were sent to the Super 8 Motel to check on a disturbance.
